Whether you are sailing over the many waterways, visit special events, watch the beautiful scenery or breathe in elements of its rich history: In Skarsterlân you will not easily be bored!
Walking down the Midstraat, Joure’s main shopping centre, you may well have the impression you are in a historic city centre. This is hardly surprising, since Joure acquired many urban qualities over the centuries with its many trading activities. Shipbuilders, copper founders and clockmakers turned especially the Midstraat into a street of elegance. The many magnificent façades, including a number of Dutch gables, proudly bear witness to it. The “Jouster Toer”, a tower dating back to 1628, is a prominent landmark. The tower can be visited as part of the ‘Stroll through Joure’. This stroll is a guided tour through Joure’s history, organised every Monday in July and August starting at the VVV office at 2 p.m.
